Shalom på Heb och Eirene på Grekiska talar om Frid. Och det är Guds frid vi talar om här och den som vill ha Guds frid måste vara underordnad honom. (Rom 14:17)

  • Roten till ordet 7965 Shalom betyder: Fullkomlighet och Helande.
  • Det är ett tillstånd där Gud kan fylla dig med det han vill!
  • Grekerna sa: Nåd till varandra och det var därför Paulus lade till Frid. (Heb)
  • Shalom – Fullheten i motsats till tomheten.

Shalom är innebörden av Guds välsignelse i våra liv. I Österlandet när man säger Shalom åt varandra så menar man att det goda skall komma in i huset. Men inte bara det utan också att det onda skall hålla sig borta från huset.

Act 3:25 Ni är barn till profeterna och arvtagare till förbundet som Gud slöt med era fäder, när han sade till Abraham: I din avkomma skall alla folk på jorden välsignas. 26 För er först och främst har Gud låtit sin tjänare träda fram, och han har sänt honom för att välsigna er genom att vända var och en bort från sina onda gärningar.”

5 Mos 27:6 Av ohuggna (Shalem) stenar skall du bygga HERRENS, din Guds, altare, och på det skall du offra brännoffer åt HERREN, din Gud.

Grekiskans frid Eirene lägger till betydelsen. Roten /Eiro – Att binda samman det som har blivit separerat. Det är att föra samman igen under Huvudet Kristus vad som är splittrat av mörkrets rike.

En uttrycker friden i NT som en mycket medveten känsla av att Gud är med oss.

Hampton Keathley has an interesting discussion of various aspects of peace:

The Peace of Reconciliation, Peace with God – Peace with God refers to the peace of salvation wherein the barriers, like man’s sin and God’s holiness, which separate man from God are removed through faith in God’s gracious work in Christ. (Ep 2:14, 15–notes; Ro 5:1–note)

The Peace of Fellowship, the Peace of a Conscience Void of Offense – This is the personal peace which God gives to the individual through fellowship with the Lord, or through walking in concord with God with all known sin confessed and turned over to God’s grace. (1John 1:9; 3:21; 3:21; 1Ti 1:5; Acts 24:16; 2Ti 1:3–note)

The Peace of Assurance, the Peace of God – This is the peace or rest of soul that comes from being confident of God’s supply and that God is in control of all the affairs of life. This is the peace that settles our nerves, fills our minds, and allows us to relax even in the midst of the uproar around us. (Php 4:6, 7, 8, 9–notes; Ps119:165–note; Pr 3:13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

ָשׁלוֹם
šālôm: A masculine noun meaning peace or tranquility. This Hebrew term is used 237 times in the Old Testament and is used to greet someone (Jdg_19:20; 1Ch_12:18 [19]; Dan_10:19). It is common in Hebrew to ask how one’s peace is (Gen_43:27; Exo_18:7; Jdg_18:15), which is equivalent to asking ”How are you?” Moreover, this word was often used to describe someone’s manner of coming or going; sometimes this took the form of a blessing: Go in peace (Jdg_8:9; 1Sa_1:17; Mal_2:6). Another common expression involved dying or being buried in peace (Gen_15:15; 2Ch_34:28; Jer_34:5) Peace is present with the wise but absent from the wicked (Pro_3:2, Pro_3:17; Isa_57:21; Isa_59:8). It is often pictured as coming from God; Gideon built an altar and called the altar Yahweh-shalom (the Lord Is Peace; Num_6:26; Jdg_6:24; Isa_26:3).
